Part Two

9 Years Later

Chapter 15 – Xavier

Nine years. Nine years and I hadn’t found another Rebirth paranormal. I slammed my fist down. The only ones that I had been able to find were either dead or I had lost track of. I ran my hand through my hair making sure not to latch on, because otherwise I might rip it out. I had been working tirelessly for nine years, looking for them.

My head pounded with an oncoming headache. I knew that I wasn’t looking for just anyone. I was looking for them. I had lost track of them when I vowed to never look for them again. That had lasted for almost a year before I had started my search again of course, though Drake was the master at hiding. He was getting better each time, too; I thought had almost found them, but I was wrong.

I had other things to worry about, though. The other Clans were becoming more aggressive toward other paranormals. In the past years I had visited many more rare paranormals trying to get them to go into hiding under my Clan’s name. Many had refused. They didn’t think they were in danger. I would never force anyone into my Clan, so I simply left with my warning. None of the Clans had attacked me personally yet, but I knew that times were changing. I could feel in the air anytime I was out. There was something changing.

It had been almost three years since Marcus and Kai had checked in. When I had last seen him, Kai still hadn’t heard any news about who had sold out his wife. It was also the first time I met his daughter. She was fourteen years old then, and a beautiful Siren. She had bright coral eyes and long dark green hair. She was bubbly and practically bouncing off the wall, but I could tell she loved her father. He watched her closely the whole time we visited at a small café, towns away from where he was living at the time with the Braden Clan. I was in my human form, and dressed much differently from my normal suit. I thought back to that day. The urgency in Kai’s voice. Something had spooked him enough he wanted out.

I shifted the baseball hat that was on my head, already annoyed with the monstrosity. I was wearing jeans that Zeke had told me were in style. Personally I didn’t understand the need to buy already ripped jeans, but I bought them anyway. I was wearing a nondescript button up shirt. When Kai walked in, his blue hair looked at odds with the other humans in the café. He had a couple piercings in both of his ears. He had a few visible tattoos, and from all outward appearances he looked like he wouldn’t have a fourteen year old daughter. And then I saw her.

Nixie was going to be tall like her father, that was obvious. She almost came to his shoulder as it was.
